Android users are losing their biggest 'WhatsApp advantage'

Starting from December 2023, WhatsApp chat and media backups on Android devices will count towards users' Google account cloud storage, ending the previous advantage of free storage for Android smartphone users. This change will slowly roll out to all WhatsApp Android users throughout the first half of 2024. Google offers 15GB of free storage with every Google Account, which is three times more than what Apple offers in iCloud. Users who hit their storage limit will need to free up space to resume backups. Google plans to provide limited, one-time Google One promotions to help with the transition.
