Sponge left in body during hysterectomy kills woman in UP's Pilibhit

A 34-year-old woman in Pilibhit, India, died from complications after a surgical sponge was left inside her abdomen during a hysterectomy. Kheelawati Shankar underwent a second surgery to remove the sponge, which had caused severe infection, but passed away hours later. An investigation has been launched into the incident at the private hospital where the initial procedure was performed.
